I can't think of anything more relaxing than ending a picture perfect day with a refreshing, frosty beverage, watching a blazing, end-of-summer sunset. The soft pinks that melt into fiery orange hues are the inspiration behind this fun, DIY ombré nail art look. Take the last rays of the summer sun wherever you go with a simple sponge technique.
The ombré manicure looks best with a pale-colored base to help the sponged-on shades pop. Apply One Stop Base followed by two coats of L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Penthouse Pink and don't fret over perfect application. Any streaks or mistakes will be covered in the end. Make sure your base color is completely dry before proceeding.
Next, apply the ombré colors to a cosmetic wedge in a stripe pattern. Create a set of stripes that is slightly longer and wider than your largest nail. I'm using L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail in Penthouse Pink, Pink Me Up! and Tangerine Crush. For your first nail, apply 4-5 strokes of each polish.
Align the sponge over the nail so that all three colors will transfer. Use a gentle tapping motion to apply the lacquer. Start at one side of the nail and make your way across the width, ensuring that polish is depositing over the entire surface. Apply two strokes of each shade to the sponge and repeat the process on the rest of your nails.
Yes, this technique does make somewhat of a mess but the final products result makes is so worth it. Use a cotton ball or swap to remove the bulk of the polish from your skin. Dip an angled eyeliner or art brush in remover for more precise clean up near the cuticles.
Add a layer of Top of the Line top coat to protect your work and then go out and impress all your friends!
